Supervision

Creative approaches to supervision | Lifespan Integration supervision | Nature-based supervision

I offer clinical supervision through one to one sessions as well as groups. I work in person, outdoors in natural environments in Derbyshire, as well as online for those who are further afield. I qualified with The London Centre of Psychodrama completing the Creative Approaches to Supervision diploma in 2014. I am also a Lifespan Integration approved supervisor, and a nature-based supervisor.

My approach to clinical supervision
Working with other practitioners, supporting their practice and development is a part of my work that I find incredibly rewarding. Therapists and counsellors are required to have considerable depth and breadth of skill, theoretical understanding, relational, and emotional capacity which they expertly apply to a wide range of issues that accompany their clients. As a supervisor, I hold an awareness of these challenges facing psychological practitioners and I regard the supervision space as hugely important with respect to supporting the supervisee to offer their best practice.

I value offering a place for my supervisees to reflect on the unconscious relational nuances that are often played out in the therapy room; to get curious together about the places they get stuck with their clients; to shine a light on what was otherwise unseen; hold a safe and empathic space for practitioner vulnerability; and to reflect on theoretical material to foster development and enable therapeutic efficacy. Working with trauma, as most of us do, can be quite intense work. Although the healing of our client's trauma is highly rewarding, the therapeutic process is not without it’s challenges, and can have accumulating deleterious effects on us as therapists/counsellors, if left unchecked. Therefore, practitioner self-care is a high priority for me, and I hold awareness with my supervisees of how balance and personal resource is sought to protect against compassion fatigue or 'burn out'.  My particular areas of interest is in Polyvagal attunement, embodiment, creative explorations, and ecological psychology.

Creative approaches to supervision
My style of supervision has a specific focus on working creatively helping the practitioner focus on the issue they are presenting. Creative approaches to supervision offers the supervisee the creative space to explore and reflect upon their supervisory focus in a ‘right-brained’ way, providing perspectives which cannot be arrived at through talking alone. Engaging the right-brain connects us to our sensory, memory, and emotional centres of the brain. It is the more embodied, creative and playful connection. This approach also allows for practitioners from across various modalities and professions to access supervision in a meaningful way.

Nature-based clinical supervision
For nature-based practitioners, as well as indoor counsellors/therapists who wish to engage with nature within their supervision sessions, I offer outdoor supervision in natural spaces in Derbyshire. Many therapists and counsellors are now taking their practice into the outdoors, offering Walk and Talk sessions and ecological therapy. I offer my depth of experience of working outdoors with people developmentally and therapeutically to help with questions such as 'how do I support my clients to engage with nature?'. For practitioners wishing to develop their nature-relatedness to support their development as an outdoor practitioner, please see Ecological Relatedness and Arts page in this website.

Lifespan Integration Clinical Supervision/Consultancy (for trained LI therapists)
I am an approved LI supervisor offering clinical supervision to LI therapists face to face or via Zoom. I have 13 years experience of using Lifespan Integration therapy with clients and have been an approved LI supervisor since 2018. I support LI therapists who wish to pursue LI certification status and to become supervisors. I hold a good understanding of treating clients with severe trauma using neuro-psychological theory, embodied processing and attuned developmental psychology.
